A Few Ways to Protect Your Books From the Cold

Did you know that the harsh cold winter temperatures can affect the condition of your books? When the temperatures drop outside, chances are the thermostat in your home is going up. Although you would normally be on guard to protect your books against high humidity, the dry air inside of your home can affect the quality and condition of your books as well.

Dry air can transform your books into kindling for the fireplace. If you don’t want your pages to crumble and break when you touch them, you need to make sure that they are stored in a place that is at least room temperature. If you suspect that the air is dry in your home, invest in a humidifier to keep everything from drying out.

Keep your books away from direct sunlight. When your books are exposed or stored in an area that receives lots of sunlight, you risk premature fading and yellowing of the ink, pictures and the pages.

As much as you may enjoy reading your books while eating or taking a warm bath, remember moisture is not your books friend. If you can’t wait to catch up on your favorite chapter, consider placing your book in clear plastic baggy while reading it around water and moisture to protect it from accidentally getting wet.

TN Books and More: What's Your Reading Style?

If the shelves of your book cases could talk, what do you think they would say about you? It doesn’t matter what kind of books you like to read, recent research suggests that it is possible to tell one’s personality simply by looking at their book shelves.

Your reading preferences are a personal representation of your inner self. People that identify themselves are extroverts are more likely to read, watch and listen to entertainment, fitness sports and health related media and books. People that identify themselves as introverts, have a natural preference for fantasy or science fiction related media and books. They also favor light humor, and light romance novels.

Of course, there are many different factors that go into determining one’s reading preference and while personality does play a major factor, one also needs to consider a person’s general interests, beliefs, environment and influences.

Another thing to consider is with the arrival of eBooks, many people are no longer housing books on their bookshelves. They may also make frequent trips to their local libraries and book stores to borrow, exchange, swap and sell their books. Others may simply be collectors and have a preference for owning rare and hard to find oddities.

Regardless of your reading preferences, beliefs, or interests, the Book Attic has everything you need to satisfy your urge for books, media and more. Contact us at (615)-859-7219 today.
